Ervia (formerly known as Bord Gáis Éireann) is a commercial semi-state company with responsibility for the delivery of gas and water infrastructure and services in Ireland.
The organisation builds and operates one of the most modern and safe gas networks in the world, and in 2012 was tasked with the establishment of Irish Water, a new water utility to reform the public water system.
Ervia primarily operates out of Cork and Dublin and employs over 1,300 staff nationwide.
The organisation will transform from an energy company to a multi-utility company responsible for strategic national gas and water infrastructure and services. Watch our short video to learn more about the organisation.
Bord Gáis Energy was sold to Centrica plc in 2014 and as part of the sale the Bord Gáis name transferred to the new owners. As a result Bord Gáis Éireann was renamed Ervia in June 2014.
Gas Networks Ireland
Bord Gáis Networks changed its name to Gas Networks Ireland in December 2014. It develops, operates and maintains the natural gas transmission and distribution networks in the Republic of Ireland and provides gas transportation services to suppliers and shippers. In 2014 the activities of Gaslink will be integrated into Gas Networks Ireland, as a new subsidiary of the organisation.
Since its establishment, Gas Networks Ireland has developed a national distribution pipeline network of 11,218km and a transmission pipeline network of 2,467km. The transmission system is linked to the UK and Continental gas markets through two Interconnector pipelines with Scotland.
Irish Water is the new national water utility responsible for providing safe, clean and affordable water and waste water services to 1.8 million customers in the Republic of Ireland. Established as a subsidiary of Bord Gáis in 2013, Irish Water assumed responsibility for providing public water and waste water services from 34 Local Authorities on January 1st, 2014.
The Board of Ervia currently consists of seven non-executive members (including the Chairman) who are appointed by the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
The Management Team, headed up by the Chief Executive, is responsible for the day to day management of the company.
